It is an architectural work which, with its 20, square meters of retail space, 3, square meters of covered galleries, parking spaces of which covered, represents an interesting design challenge, especially for the need to reduce the impact on the Urban web, integrating in the best way with the historical, economic and social development in the town of the Mantua province.
The project, created by Studio Rodighiero Associati of Castiglione delle Stiviere MN , is strongly characterized by a dome and a fully glazed gallery, located at the public pedestrian pathways. Through the gallery, a community use axis of connection, one can also walk from school to the swimming center. Even the parking lots, placed by convenient ramps on three levels, are involved to this strategy of integration with the urban context, creating different opportunities for access that make independent and autonomous the various parts of this multi- purpose building, which articulates in four floors.
Particular attention was finally placed on reducing the impact on the environment in an energetic sense, by appropriate technological devices, such as the adoption of low temperature systems, the use of infill insulation and ventilation, and control exposure to the sun on the glass surfaces.
The volume of the building consists of a simple rectangular shape covered with prefabricated panels manufactured by Styl Comp. The solution was found in an aggravation of the square mesh design consisting of deep grooves, identical to that of the joint. At the center of each square was then placed in the factory a ceramic tile, which is also square shaped, of deep blue colour, produced by Graniti Fiandre. The resulting effect is that of a decorated facade that is able to return a unified perception of the architectural volumes, but denouncing, at the same time, their non-structural nature.
The use of blue and red features the design choices related to the interiors of the building. The blue identifies the horizontal paths along which the public walks and is also the color involved in the semantic amplification of the glass dome, that glimpse of the sky. The red, institutional brand colour of Italmark, gives recognition to the chain of shopping centers and identifies all vertical paths inside the building. It is worth to stress the perfection of the circular cutting of ceramic tiles of the flooring, performed through water jet laser technology.
The attention paid both in the cutting phase and in that of laying has allowed to obtain circular inserts in the floor that well recall the roundness of the glass dome and the concept of the square. The detail of the joints between the tiles that continue as if the same material was laid, is of particular aesthetic, but above all technical, relevance.
